The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has reported of over 47,000 individuals affected by Tropical Storm (TS) “Kristine” (international name: Trami) in Eastern Visayas, as of Wednesday, October 23, 2024. 

TS #KristinePH has affected over 47,000 individuals in Region 8 as it dumped heavy rainfall beginning October 22, 2024, according to a report from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) 8.

The affected population include 20,227 individuals from the Province of Northern Samar, 24,024 from the Province of Eastern Samar, and 2,770 from Province of Samar.

Three people have been reported missing or injured, and 638 individuals have been evacuated, the report cited.

In addition, 991 passengers, 422 rolling cargoes, and 14 vessels have been reported stranded.

Classes have been suspended in the Provinces of Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, Biliran, and Southern Leyte, while work has been cancelled in 17 areas.

“Twelve municipalities in Northern Samar have experienced flooding, and minor landslides have been reported in San Jorge (Samar), Inopacan (Leyte), Taft (Eastern Samar), and Palapag (Northern Samar),” a post on Civil Defense PH reads.

As of October 23, 2024, five roads and bridges are rendered impassable: Poblacion in the town of Lope de Vega, Maragan in Palapag, Parabucan in Calbayog City, Chitongo in Mondragon, and Bungko in Mondragon, all in Northern Samar.

The OCD has announced that augmentation support is on the way from both national and regional governments.

“Disaster officials are closely coordinating with local government units to provide ongoing assistance to evacuees,” the post reads further.
