With the devastation #KristinePH caused in other parts of the Philippines even before making landfall, residents in Northern Luzon are preparing for the worst.

According to PAGASA, #KristinePH may make landfall in northern Luzon on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, or Thursday, October 24.

In Nueva Vizcaya, when the weather turned gloomy, farmers in Barangay Balete gathered their harvested corn quickly.

“May bagyo kasing darating, mahirap kung mabasa kasi uulit na naman kami,” Jovelon Pascua, a farmer, said.

Farmers in Laoag City have also started harvesting rice crops. To speed up the process, many used reaper machines while others resorted to manual harvesting after their crops were damaged by the previous storm, #JulianPH.

Some farmers are anxious as the weather has started to change, with cloudy skies signaling the impending storm. They hope to finish harvesting their rice before the storm hits, ensuring that their hard work is not washed away.

In Santiago City, Isabela, rescue equipment is already positioned for any necessary evacuations.

Local authorities are monitoring 23 barangays at risk of flooding.

“Natatakot kasi may bagyo, pero nagdadasal na lumihis ang bagyo,” Geraldine Lomacang, a resident, said.

Officials have advised barangay leaders to keep an eye on their communities, especially in Northern Isabela, where towns like San Pablo, Cabagan, Tumauini, Santa Maria, and Santo Tomas are under watch.

“Ang concern namin ay kapag umulan sa bundok, puro bundok kasi ang dadaanan ni Kristine, at kapag umulan doon, lahat ng tubig pupunta sa Cagayan River,” Atty. Constante Foronda Jr., Isabela's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) officer, said.

As of October 22, the river systems in the province are at below normal levels.

In Cagayan, authorities have conducted a pre-disaster risk assessment to prepare for the expected impact of the storm.

All hospitals in the province are now on full alert, and a storm surge advisory has been issued.

Food packs are being repacked continuously that will distributed to possible affected residents.
