The province of Albay has declared a state of calamity due to severe flooding caused by Tropical Storm (TS) #KristinePH on October 22, 2024.

This decision follows recommendations from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) and the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO).

APSEMO expects significant damage across various sectors.

According to the Albay Provincial Information Office, John Eugene Vincent Escobar, head of the Research and Statistics Division of APSEMO, said evacuation efforts for affected residents were set to conclude by 5 p.m. on October 22, 2024.

Initial assessments indicate that around 34,000 families, or more than 132,000 people, may need shelter in evacuation centers if those living in flood and landslide-prone areas are relocated.

Albay has a remaining budget of P46,540,000 from the 2024 Quick Response Fund (QRF).

Officials said these funds will only be used if additional support is needed for local government units (LGUs).
