A three-month-old baby died as his family was fleeing their home when heavy rains and big waves brought by #KristinePH battered their community in Barangay Labuan, Zamboanga City.

The incident happened past midnight on October 21, 2024. The baby’s mother was carrying the child away from their stilt house when the family was hit by a big wave as they were navigating a rocky portion of the shoreline. She stumbled and lost her grip on the baby, and the child fell into the water.

The water pulled the child away from shore and the baby’s body was found only later.

Around 26 families in Barangay Patalon were also displaced after strong waves destroyed their stilt houses. The families affected were evacuated to the madrasah.

Meanwhile, a landslide occurred on KM 15 in Barangay La Paz, displacing one family.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has extended assistance to the families affected, including rice, canned goods, noodles, and other food supplies.

The Emergency Operations Center under the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is on blue alert, as of this writing, and response teams are on standby to respond to emergency situations as #KristinePH nears.
