A gas explosion at a coffee shop in Lapu-Lapu City injured four members of the kitchen staff.

The said personnel sustained from second to third-degree burns following the incident on October 19, 2024.

The coffee shop in Barangay Pajac has its own fire extinguisher used by other personnel that helped prevent further spread of fire, according to FO1 Vincent Rhey Reyes, fire investigator at Lapu-Lapu City Fire District.

“Nagtuo siya [kitchen staff] og na-open. Close gihapon to siya. Mao to iyang gibalik. Imbis close na dili na hilabtan, iya mang gi-on. Mao to 30 seconds after, makita man sa CCTV, naa na may mi-on sa gas stove, mi-spark,” FO1 Reyes, explained.

No one was hurt among the three foreign nationals who were at the shop at that time.

The owner, Victor Ramos, did not grant an on-cam interview, but he said he has already attended to the medical expenses, and other needs of his employees.

“Dapat gyud presence of mind, samot na ani nga magluto ta. Kay duol kaayo sa disgrasya. Dapat maka-complete pud sila sa fire safety,” Reyes added.
