A 24-year-old lineman was electrocuted after touching a live wire accidentally in Barangay Dulig, Labrador, Pangasinan.

The victim was identified as Ronel Alfonso Sanchez Quijano, a lineman from Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO).

Quijano was conducting preventive maintenance on the power lines of the Labrador Substation on October 19, 2024 when the accident occurred.

"Aksidenteng nahawakan niya ‘yung primary line ng kuryente," PLT. Ronaldo Aquino from Labrador Police Station, said.

The incident was captured on video by Judyann Santos Rico, a resident.

Rico said she heard a loud pop before seeing the man already hanging from the post.

"Pagkadinig ko ng ‘puk,’ paglingon ko, ayun, nakalaylay na si kuya... nataranta ako. Chineck ko ‘yung ilaw, meron pa [kuryente]," she said.

Quijano sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

CENPELCO has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident.

“’Yun po ‘yung tini-trace namin, kung bakit nagkaroon ng parang lapse doon sa information. On-going po ‘yung investigation,” Engr. Rodrigo Corpuz, the cooperative's general manager, said.

The investigation will determine why there was still live electricity during the maintenance work, a time when the power should have been shut off.

CENPELCO also assured it will extend assistance to Quijano's family.

The victim's family is yet to release a statement, as of this writing.
