Another school in Cebu City cancelled classes morning on Monday, October 21, 2024 due to an “emergency situation.”

“Classes are suspended in all levels until further notice due to an ongoing emergency situation,” Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) located along Natalio Bacalso Avenue (South Cebu Expressway) in Cebu City said in a post. 

“Elementary and Junior High School students are currently being supervised by their teachers while safely evacuated on the school grounds. Parents are given the option to pick up their children if they wish to do so. Please stay tuned for further updates. Your cooperation and understanding are appreciated during this time,” CIT-U’s post further reads. 

At past noontime, CIT-U in a follow-up post announced that classes have resumed by 1:30 p.m. on October 21, 2024, through online asynchronous modality. 

"Following a thorough inspection by both school and government authorities, the CIT University campus has been officially declared secure. As such, the following adjustments will take place:

1. College classes will resume today at 1:30 PM in online asynchronous modality. Classes tomorrow, October 22, will also be conducted online asynchronously, except for CNAHS (College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences) in the afternoon, due to the scheduled College Faculty General Assembly and college faculty meetings.

2. Basic Education will return to face-to-face classes tomorrow, October 22.

3. The rescheduling of the Junior High School examinations will be communicated by the advisers through the respective class group chats.

4. Work in all offices will resume tomorrow," CIT-U's updated post reads.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Technological University (CTU) suspended classes at its main campus in downtown Cebu City following a bomb threat.

The school's official student publication, The Nation Builder, reported that an unidentified Facebook account posted the threat with photos of another incident grabbed online. 

The campus has been vacated as authorities investigate the incident. 

In its latest post at about noontime on October 21, 2024, The Nation Builder said that authorities are investigating several leads on the identity of the person responsible for the bomb threat.

“Authorities are reportedly now investigating several leads pertaining to the person behind the posted bomb threat at Cebu Technological University-Main Campus (CTU-MC), today, October 21,” the post reads.

The post advised that R. Palma Street is closed temporarily.

“R. Palma St. is temporarily closed following bomb threat at CTU-MC. Authorities temporarily deny entry at R. Palma St. from the corners of M.J. Cuenco Avenue and Sergio Osmeña Boulevard as they continue to investigate a reported bomb threat at Cebu Technological University- Main Campus (CTU-MC), today, October 21. The public is advised to avoid the area until further notice,” The Nation Builder further reads. 

“Moreover, as of 11 a.m. today, students, faculty, and staff are still prohibited from entering the campus. Authorities declares Plaza Independencia, Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, and Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral as immediate safe spaces for those inside and within CTU-MC’s vicinity. 

“The CTU-MC Administration is yet to make a full statement regarding today’s incident,”” it added.
