A bridge on Km 8, Purok 6-A Iñigo in Barangay Matina Pangi, Davao City gave in after a 20-wheeler truck carrying rocks and soil crossed afternoon on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

The driver escaped after the truck fell.

According to a barangay official, trucks are not supposed to cross the 20-meter bridge as the bridge only has a capacity of five tons.

The bridge was also reportedly dilapidated.

“Namali man gud sila’g sulod didto dapat sila padulong sa Catalunan nisulod man gud sila sa Iñigo. Ang capacity ani 5 tons lang siya pero di napud namo ginapasudlan maski 5 tons tungod gabok na pud,” Barangay Matina Pangi Councilman, Oniel Pareñas, said.

The barangay reportedly does not have enough funds to have the bridge repaired. The concern has been raised to the mayor’s office.

“Dili man maigo ang budget sa barangay… among gi-request sa city ug sa congressional pero naabtan man sa cutoff,” Pareñas said.

The bridge is impassable, as of this writing.

Residents may cross the bridge in Saavedra, Catalunan Grande but only pedestrians can pass.

“Hasol gyud. Tao ray makaagi didto ibilin na lang na (motor) diri. Unta dili ni kawaton diria uso baya kaayo ang kaaat diri,” a residents, Aldrin Tipudan, said.
