Two persons allegedly involved in selling pre-registered prepaid sim cards were arrested in separate entrapment operations in Cagayan de Oro City.

Personnel of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-Northern Mindanao (RACU-10) caught a 34-year-old man in the act of selling pre-registered prepaid sim cards outside a school in Barangay Gusa.

RACU-10 has long been monitoring the activities of the suspect.

A bulk of prepaid sim cards already registered was seized from the suspect.

Police said selling pre-registered sim cards is prohibited under the Sim Registration Act (RA 11934).

“Mga ngalan mga dummy account so ang tawag ani mga bogus account so mao pud na ang atong nakita sa mga applications financial applications nga duna pud mga modus operandi nga ingon ana,” RACU-10 Chief, Lt. Col. Lemuel Gonda, said.

By virtue of a search warrant, authorities also raided the house of the suspect and recovered other pre-registered sim cards.

Authorities said it is possible that the pre-registered sim cards could be used in illegal activities.

“Ubay-ubay na labi na katung mga ginatawag nato nga phishing or kaning ginatawag nato nga mga call nga gapangilad naga-name drop og mga pangalan sa mga prominent nga mga personality either government or private institution gamiton ilang ngalan manghulga sila o mangayo sila og kwarta,” Gonda said.

Meanwhile, in a separate entrapment operation, a 54-year-old woman was arrested for selling pre-registered prepaid sim cards.

The operation was launched morning on Friday, October 18, 2024, in the same barangay.

“Delikado ni siya so ato pud gihangyo ang mga katawhan nga dili ni i-patronize ang kaning mga prepaid sim card nga registered na siya kay violation ni si balaod sim card registration act,” Gonda said.
