A policeman was killed after the car he was driving collided with a dump truck in Polomolok, South Cotabato on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

The policeman was a patrolman and was assigned at the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-SOCCSKSARGEN (RMFB-12).

Investigators said the policeman’s car and the dump truck were traveling in opposite directions. The car was heading to General Santos City while the dump truck was bound for Polomolok.

The two vehicles collided in the middle of the road upon reaching the place of incident.

The policeman was declared dead on arrival while the truck driver was brought to the hospital.

Authorities are investigating what caused the collision and who was responsible.

“So far, doon sa scene, nakita ng ating investigator, more on sa gitna talaga sila nagkabanggaan sa area. Kung may filing ng case is kinakailangan natin ng additional witness to justify kung saan ba talaga, sino yung pumasok sa kabilang linya… but based on sa damages, halos sa gitna ng daan ang meeting area nila,” Polomolok Municipal Police Station Chief, Lt. Col. Peter Pinalgan, said.

The truck driver has been taken into police custody and has yet to issue a statement.

As of this writing, authorities are waiting for the decision of the policeman’s family on whether or not they will file charges.

“As of now, as to the settlement, wala po tayong information but in cases of mga vehicular accidents natin, binibigay natin ang decision sa both parties kung ano ang gusto nilang gawin,” Pinalgan said.
