Illegal drugs worth over P600 million were destroyed at a thermal facility of a funeral homes in Palô town, Province of Leyte.

Destruction of the illegal substances that reached a total of P625,797,997.27 took place at around 2 p.m. on October 11, 2024.

The dangerous drugs destroyed consisted of methamphetamine hydrochloride that reached a total of 92,018.4927 grams, marijuana at 15.2413 grams, and assorted expired medicines.

“The pieces of drug evidence were stacked inside an incinerator chamber and exposed to high temperatures of over 1,000 degrees Centigrade. All dangerous drugs were reduced to ashes, and completely decomposed or broken down. Thus, they are impossible to reconstitute,” Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority (PDEA) 8 said in a post.

The destruction of the items was facilitated with the presence of officials from the Department of Justice, Public Attorney’s Office, and Police Regional Office 8; as well as elected officials, members of the media, members of civil society groups, among others, as prescribed in Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
