Metal railings at a fish market in Barangay Subâ, Cebu City pinned to death a four-year-old boy in Cebu City.

The incident in the afternoon of October 14, 2024 was caught on CCTV camera.

The footage showed that the boy, named “Crismark,” was playing with another child right next to the railings. His playmate clung, climbed the railings, and went down. After which the railings fell upon Crismark.

Residents rushed to Crismark’s rescue. He was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center but because of the severe wound he sustained on the head, he was transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. However, he expired there.

Juanito Sandoval, grandfather of the boy, said that the child was left to his care when the boy's mother started working as a household help in another province.

“Ang digrasya, disgrasya man gyud. Ang amo lang adto nganong wala gyud hipusa,” Juanito said.

Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said that the City Government will provide financial assistance to the family. He also said that once fish market personnel be found negligent, they will face sanctions.

“Makita gani nato nga naa gyuy negligence, naa gyuy mga empleyado ani nga makakuha gyud og disciplinary actions, even suspension. Or even ipabalhin ba nato’g laing departmento [departamento],” Garcia said.

"Di man sad ikalimod nga tan-aw nako naa gyuy negligence pud on the part on the city government. Labi na ang market ug ang CCTO, or whoever was responsible for that," Garcia added.

Police Station 6 of the Cebu City Police Office led by Deputy Chief, Police Lt. Loreto Tuliao, said that they are ready to assist.

"All angles has [have] been investigated. Kung ano pa yung maging results, nakahanda na man kami na i-disclose yun sa public," P/Lt. Col. Tuliao said.

Crismark would have marked his 5th birthday on November 7, 2024.

Juanito said he is not pursuing any complaint. He said he just wants assistance from the city government.

“Ang ako lang malubong na siya og tarong, mahiluna lang siya,” Juanito said.

The fish market administrator is yet to issue a statement.
