A hailstorm hit Barangay San Vicente East, Asingan, Pangasinan late afternoon on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, surprising residents in the area.

The residents said the hailstorm lasted more than three minutes.

“’Nung umulan, may kasama talagang yelo. So, binidyo ko, nag-live kami. Tapos, may mga dumadating pa na tao na may dala-dala pang maliliit na yelo,” Ronald Duqueza, who recorded the event, said.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), hailstorms can occur during intense thunderstorms, though they are experienced more commonly from May to July.

On October 15, the temperature reached 34 degrees Celsius, coinciding with the thunderstorm that caused the hail.

“Usually, kapag May to October, as long as mataas ang temperature natin at may Cumulonimbus clouds, nagkakaroon tayo ng malalakas na thunderstorms,” Evelyn Iglesias, Weather Observer III from PAGASA-Dagupan Station, said.
