Heavy rains have caused significant damage to several classrooms at Mangaldan National High School, leaving students and teachers in a tough situation.
With old roofing materials giving way, school officials are working hard to address the issue.
“Noong [dire]-diretsyo ‘yung ulan, bumigay talaga ang mga yero,” Danilo Eden, the assistant principal, said.
The intense downpour and age of the roofing materials led to holes forming in the ceilings of classrooms, disrupting learning.
During the rain, students locate temporarily to other classrooms or the covered gymnasium to continue their lessons.
“’Yun ang number one problem sa old building na ganito, talagang madaling masira ang yero,” Juvy Petilla, a teacher, said.
As of this writing, the damaged classrooms are slated for demolition, so repairs are focused on sealing the holes in the roofs.
“Luma na kasi talaga, kaya may mga na-identify tayo, pero mabilis din nating naaayos,” Eden said.
Despite the weather-related challenges, school officials assure that classes are continuing without major interruptions.
The administration remains committed to ensuring that the students' learning is not affected during this rainy season.
