Several campaign materials put up on trees in Cagayan de Oro City have been taken down.

Personnel of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) launched the “Operation Baklas Tarpaulin” after noticing that several posters of aspirants are being nailed on trees along the streets.

CLENRO was able to remove around 100 posters and tarpaulins on Mastersons Avenue.

Most of the posters and tarpaulins are from aspirants and some establishments.

“Bawal ang pagpilit og any materials diha sa punuan sa kahoy muna 2015 nga city ordinance nga 12984 nga nagdili sa pagpamutang og commercial item, not only politician,” CLENRO Chief, Engineer Armen Cuenca, said.

CLENRO said the operation is in accordance with the city ordinance that protects the environment.

“Ang kahoy man gud kung imo siyang pasipad-an, pasipad-an mana kay imo manang lansangan so ang bacteria musulod sa kahoy so mugabok dayun ang kahoy so mamatay ang kahoy,” Cuenca added.

CLENRO said the removal of posters and tarpaulins should serve as a reminder for politicians and other owners of the posters and tarpaulins.

“Hangyo mi sa ila nga unta undangon nato nga dili na kay gusto ta mahimong city officials, congressman, gusto mahimong senador unya kita ang gauna-una nga ga-violate sa maong balaod,” Cuenca said.

CLENRO said the operation will continue, especially that posting of campaign paraphernalia on trees is expected to proliferate during the campaign period for the 2025 midterm elections.
