Four retired police officials and a retired soldier are running for mayor and congressman in Iligan City in the 2025 national and local elections.

Five aspirants for House representative in the lone district of Iligan City have filed their certificate of candidacy on the last day of filing on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Among them was retired soldier, retired Col. Siegfred Espina, who is running as independent candidate.

Retired Col. Graciano Mijares also filed his COC. He served as director of Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) before he retired from the police service.

Incumbent lone District Rep. Celso Regencia is also seeking reelection. Regencia was a former police official before he became mayor and congressman in the city.

Retired policeman and former city police director, retired Col. Leony Roy Ga, is running for mayor. His running mate is Ernest Oliver Uy.

The whole slate for the City Council under the United Iligan Party led by Regencia has also filed their COC.

Ga will be facing the former director of Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10), retired Brigadier General Rolando Anduyan, in the mayoralty race.

Anduyan’s running mate is Andres Visaya.

Former PHIVIDEC administrator and former chairman of the National Commission on Senior Citizens, Franklin Quijano, is also eyeing the mayoral seat. He is running as an independent candidate.

Incumbent Mayor Frederick Siao is also seeking another term as mayor.

Meanwhile, Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra is running for vice mayor in the next election while his son, Zain, will be running for mayor.

The younger Gandamra will face former Mayor Fahad “Pre” Salic, who wants to get back the city’s top post.

According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in BARMM and Northern Mindanao, the last day of COC filing in Iligan City and Marawi City ended peacefully.

All COCs are now being consolidated before submitting to the COMELEC-Central Office in Manila.
