Three persons stole food items from a school canteen in Sipalay City, Province of Negros Occidental.

The incident happened at the Sipalay City National High School - Junior High School campus.

The suspects were seen in a CCTV footage walking at night on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Barangay 5, Sipalay City. Their faces were concealed with articles of clothing.

One of them went near a CCTV camera and danced seemingly.

At dawn of October 6, 2024, two of them were seen flailing plastic bags while walking past another CCTV shot.

According to the Sipalay City Police, the three persons seen in the video are all of minor ages.

The plastic bags they were bringing contained stolen items, police said.

They were identified positively after the school administrator reported the incident to the police.

“Reported na siya. Naaksyunan na namin kung ano ang gagawin. Hinihintay na lang ang advice or the issuance ng DSWD [ Department of Social Welfare and Development] for appropriate filing of the case because na-identify na namin,” according to Captain Jose Michael Muñez, deputy chief of the Sipalay City Police.

Barangay officials summoned the parents of the suspects that led to the return of the stolen items such as bottled beverages, cup noodles, among others.

According to the parents, their children admitted to stealing the items from the school and apologized.

“Syempre, mga minor. Hindi natin maitago kasi ganyan ang kanilang attitude. Medyo nagpaawa sila noong una. Iyan ang kanilang reaction, pagkatapos, uulitin na naman,” Capt. Muñez said.

According to the police, the school is determined to file a case for theft against the suspects.

The school has not issued a statement, though.
