A member of the barangay peacekeeping action team (BPAT) was killed while six others were hurt after tension sparked on the last day of the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur.

Police said tension sparked at the municipal hall following a commotion involving supporters of two aspirants, which eventually resulted in the shooting.

The fatality was identified as alias “Baguinda.”

Among the six people hurt were a policeman and an employee of the local government.

The policeman was identified as Police Corporal Montassir Eskak who was assigned at the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st PMFC) of the Maguindanao Police Provincial Office.

The municipal government employee was identified as alias “Morsid Pendulat.”

The Commission on Elections-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (COMELEC-BARMM) transferred the venue of the COC filing immediately after the incident.

The situation returned to normal after the police and military intervened.

No one has been arrested, as of this writing.

Investigation continues to identify the persons involved in the shooting.
