Two groups of aspirants in Iloilo City forged an alliance and submitted their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on the last day of filing, on October 8, 2024.

Incumbent Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas’ Team Uswag first attended a Holy Mass before proceeding via a foot parade to the venue for the COC filing, while Iloilo City Lone District Representative Julienne Baronda of Team Gugma held a proclamation rally at a university gym.

Team Uswag was first to arrive at the venue. Raisa Treñas-Chu, daughter and executive assistant to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, along with reelectionist Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and their entire slate filed their COC.

Chu disclosed that her father is not running in the 2025 midterm elections.

Further, Team Gugma was represented by their lawyers at the filing venue.

Congresswoman Baronda seeks reelection, while her younger sister, Lady Julie Grace Baronda, seeks the vice mayoralty post.

Earlier, it was expected that the group will field former mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, but he was not included in the COCs filed as he refused reportedly to run.

Mabilog said not joining the mayoral race is a sacrifice he made.

In relation to the alliance forged by the two groups, they released a joint statement on agreeing not to field an opposing aspirant for the congressional and mayoralty posts.

The filing of COC on the last day on October 8, 2024 in Iloilo City is "relatively peaceful and orderly," according to Comelec.
