A man died after a live fish got stuck in his throat.

The 23-year-old man identified only as “Jerry” was out at sea to fish in Barangay Sabang, Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City on October 3, 2024.

According to his mother, who reported the incident to the Talima Police Station, that it was the father of Jerry’s live-in partner who saw Jerry bit on a live catch while adjusting his fishing line.

The fish was about six inches long, the mother said.

While Jerry held the fish using his teeth, the animal wiggled, and slipped in his mouth instead. Jerry asked for help by pointing to his throat to communicate that he was in trouble.

The father of his live-in partner paddled the boat to the shore to get help but Jerry was already limp. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced there dead on arrival by the attending physician.
