Farmers in Marcos, Ilocos Norte were devastated after discovering that 100 sacks of their palay had become rotten following heavy rains brought by Typhoon #JulianPH.

The rice, harvested before the storm, was stored in a warehouse but was found later to have already sprouted and had blackened after the weather cleared on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

The farmers are now attempting to dry and save what remains of the damaged palay, though much of it may be beyond recovery.

Typhoon #JulianPH caused an estimated P85 million in damage to rice crops in Ilocos Norte, leaving farmers struggling to recover.

The storm hit just before harvest, wiping out months of food supply for many.

Despite the losses, local officials remain optimistic, noting that the province’s rice sufficiency exceeds 100 percent.

In Cagayan, over P1.1 million in damage to livestock has been reported, with recovery efforts underway.
