A 64-year-old woman was hit by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) while she was crossing Archbishop Reyes Avenue, Barangay Luz, Cebu City using the pedestrian crosswalk.
The incident was caught on CCTV camera which showed that the driver did not bother stop and check the victim.
Leonida Maratas Gitamondoc, a resident of Barangay Tulay, Minglanilla town in south Cebu, crossed the Archbishop Reyes Avenue under a flyover at 5:40 a.m. on September 27, 2024.
Passersby helped Leonida to her feet, the footage showed.
She sustained injuries, according to a report made by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office.
Leonida's younger brother, Jude, an esteemed musician-songwriter in Cebu, sent a copy of the police report to GMA Regional TV News.
The report cited that it was Leonida's older brother, Jorge Maratas Gitamondoc, who reported the hit-and-run incident to the police station at past noontime on the same day involving a yet unidentified driver of a silver/gray SUV bearing induction sticker number BN 098A.
Based on the CCTV footage, the vehicle sped away while a few motorists tried to give chase. However, the car headed to an undetermined direction and was nowhere to be found.
In his post, Jude Gitamondoc called on the public to share any information on the whereabouts of the driver.
“My dear 64-year-old sister got hit by this vehicle while crossing the pedestrian lane and just drove off leaving her lying there on the street. The vehicle is a BYD ATTO 3 with plate number BN 098A. It's been five (5) days since the incident and the driver responsible hasn't come forward. Friends, we'd appreciate any information. We hope you can share,” Jude said in his post on October 2, 2024.
