More than 2,000 families from four barangays in Maguindanao del Sur were affected by flooding following heavy rains on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Of this number, at least 120 families were evacuated, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Some students were stranded and were moved to safer ground.

More than 120 families from three barangays in the town were also evacuated. They are taking shelter temporarily at the evacuation center and were given assistance.

No one was reported hurt during the flooding.

“Alhamdulillah, wala naman kasi based on our previous experiences pinapaigting na po namin ng ating PDRRMC. (Ang) preemptive evacuation, yung preemptive measures, pagbibigay po ng early warning malayo pa yung bagyo, malayo pa yung natural calamities na dumating,” PDRRMO Maguindanao del Sur Assistant Head, Tim Ambolodto, said.

Meanwhile, some areas in Digos City, Davao del Sur were also flooded.

The areas affected include Barangays Sinawilan, Kiagot, San Agustin, and Cogon.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the rains experienced in some areas of Mindanao were due to the easterlies.
