Following the declaration of a state of calamity in Ilocos Norte, a price freeze on essential goods has been implemented.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is closely monitoring markets to ensure that no price hikes occur during this critical time, even extending the freeze to hardware supplies.

“Kung ano ang prevailing price, dapat sundin nila,” Amelia Galvez, DTI-Ilocos Norte Director, said.

The DTI has also warned businesses against taking advantage of the situation, reminding them to adhere to the Price Act.

“The retailers are aware, abide by the Price Act,” Galvez said.

With waist-deep floods submerging her home in Laoag City, Rodelia Valdez has been unable to earn a living for days.

As she slowly recovers from the effects of Super Typhoon #JulianPH, she hopes prices of essential goods will remain affordable.

“Dapat talaga hindi tataas,” she said, referring to the rising cost of basic commodities.

Any business found violating the price freeze will receive a notice of violation from the DTI.
