Two suspected robbers were killed after they allegedly fought back against authorities in General Santos City.

Police said a student reported that he was held up by two armed men who were riding a motorcycle and carted away his cellphone and money.

In Barangay Lagao, operatives spotted the suspects that fit the description provided by the complainant.

But the suspects allegedly fired shots when they were flagged down for inspection. Authorities returned fire and hit the suspect who was riding in pillion, causing him to fall off the motorcycle.

The driver escaped.

The wounded suspect was brought to the hospital but he died.

“Instead of stopping and submit themselves for inspection, pabuto tong isa sa mga suspek, wherein nag-retaliate pud ang atung personnel so due to sustained gunshot wound nahulog siya sa motor,” Police Station 3 Lagao Commander, Major Ari Noel Cardos, said.

Recovered from the suspect were a gun, ammunition, stolen items, and suspected illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s companion who fled was also killed in a hot pursuit operation after he was cornered in Barangay San Isidro.

“Hindi na niya binalikan ang kasama niya wherein yung kasama niya na intercept sa area sa (Police Precinct 4) again may narecover nga pusil og illegal drugs,” Cardos added.

The mother of one of the suspects said her son is not a robber. Prior to the incident, her son told her that he would go out to collect debt.

“Nag-ingon siya mang muadto sa ako didto kay wala tay kwarta maningil sa ko…natingala na lang hangtud naghapon, hangtud nag buntag wala na gyud makontak…Ang akung anak bisan naa ang Ginoo, mamatay pa ko sa gilingkuran dili na holdaper ang akung anak,” the mother of one of the suspects said.

Police also said the slain suspects were allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

“Ang presumption namu, kauban gyud sila sa illegal drug transaction tapos may shabu din na narecover katung pagserch sa kauban niya,” Cardos said.
