Several political aspirants in Dagupan City arrived early at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Provincial Office on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the first day for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC).

The process went smoothly, with COMELEC ensuring a fast and organized filing procedure.

Philip Theodore Cruz, one of the aspirants, shared his eagerness to file.

"Today is October 1 — at exactly 8 a.m. in the morning — Inaagahan ko na para matapos na. Maaga rin akong nagising pinuntahan ko na ang filing para pinakauna," Cruz said.

COMELEC held a briefing for the aspirants to ensure a peaceful and efficient filing process.

"Maganda na ginawa ng ating election officers na nag-conduct aspirants briefing na i-guide yung mga secretaries nila or personal representatives or candidate mismo sa pag-fill-out," Atty. Ericson Oganiza, Provincial Election Supervisor, said.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) tightened security throughout the day, deploying 60 additional personnel to maintain peace.

"Andito tayo ngayon para magprovide ng security. As of this time, normal naman lahat. Wala naman tayong naitatalang any untoward incidents sa ating AOR," PLt.Col. Brendon Palisoc, Dagupan City Police Chief, said.

As the day progressed, aspirants for various positions of governor, vice governor, and mayor also started submitting their COCs across different provinces, including Nueva Ecija and Abra.

COMELEC hopes for an orderly filing period, which will end on October 8.
