Heavy rains have caused floodwaters to reach up to three feet in Sitio Subdivision, Barangay Lumbang, Calasiao, Pangasinan, affecting around 250 households.

While no residents have been evacuated yet, the barangay is prepared with relief goods and an evacuation plan.

Flooding has become a recurring issue in the area due to the unfinished dike project.

“Sa ulan saka ‘yung mga hindi natatapos na dike. Kaya ‘yung pagtaas ng tubig pupunta dito, mababa dito sa amin,” Danilo Joves, a barangay councilman, said.

Residents like Danilo Urdanza have resorted to using makeshift rafts to navigate the floodwaters.

Urdanza said his family had to move their belongings to the second floor to keep them dry.

“Nabaha ang school namin... wala na ang drainage na dinadaluyan ng tubig,” he said.

The Marusay River in Calasiao has reached six feet, nearing its critical level of eight feet, according to Zaldy Malit of the Calasiao Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (LDRRMO).

“As of now, tumaas po ng bahagya dahil ‘yung tubig na nanggagaling sa upstreams e bumababa na dito sa atin,” he said.
