An 18-year-old student died due to alleged hazing that took place allegedly during an initiation of a fraternity in Nueva Ecija.

The victim was identified as Ren Joseph Bayan, a Grade 11 student.

In a report by Mark Salazar on 24 Oras, Bayan left for nearby San Leonardo morning of the incident for what his family referred to as an initiation.

Despite their concerns, they reportedly could not stop him.

However, at around 3 p.m., fraternity members arrived at the family home in a van, leading to a grim discovery.

“'Yung van po matagal nang nakahinto. Sabihin niyo nalang sa amin kung patay na. Feeling ko po patay kasi... kung buhay, hihingi sila ng tulong,” Ren Joseph's aunt, Jennifer, said.

The fraternity members carried Ren Joseph out of the van and handed him over to his family. He was already dead reportedly.

"Wala na pong buhay. Nantigas na po [ang katawan niya]... ilang oras nang patay," Jennifer said.

Ren Joseph was one of seven individuals allegedly subjected to hazing that day, but he was the only one who died.

Jennifer described the injuries Bayan:

"Maraming pasa po yung bata, sa hita, sa balakang... may putik siya," she said.

According to the Jaen police, they have identified the owner of the house where the alleged hazing took place, as well as several fraternity members involved.

Autopsy revealed that Bayan died from hemorrhagic shock due to blunt traumatic injuries.

"Lumabas po doon sa autopsy na ‘yung [pagkamatay] ng bata ay dahil sa hemorrhagic shock," PCAPT. Noemi Gogotano, Public Information Office Chief of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (PPO), said.

The six other alleged participants in the hazing could serve as witnesses, but some are reportedly hesitant to share information.

“Wala po kami na malinaw na detalye kung ano po talaga yung nangyari,” Jennifer said.

If cooperation does not improve, the victim's family plan to file criminal charges.

The Jaen police are currently investigating the case, but it will be handed over to the San Leonardo police once criminal charges are filed, as that is where the incident occurred.
