A woman engaged in the manufacture, sale, and distribution of falsified government documents fell in an entrapment operation of the National Bureau of Investigation Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI CEVRO) in Naga City, south Cebu.

Verlyn Panilag Subrian, 29 years old, was arrested at past 6 p.m. on September 24, 2024 in Barangay East Poblacion, Naga City.

“As far as our investigation is concerned, dugaydugay na gyud, in fact daghan na siya og suki. She is using social media to promote her illegal business,” according to NBI CEVRO Director, Atty. Renan Augustus Oliva.

Among the falsified government documents are Philhealth cards and Tax Identification Number (TIN) cards.

Fake government IDs have been used in criminal activities such as in the operation of illegal POGOs (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations), Atty. Oliva added.

He said that foreign nationals have used Filipino names to carry out illegal transactions in the country.

The entrapment was based on a complaint raised by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

BIR warned the public that transactions outside of its offices are likely bogus.

“Do not buy or secure your TIN outside of BIR kay more or less that’s fake gyud. So we encourage everyone to use our system, it’s a new BIR website,” Atty. Isaac Darcera III, assistant chief legal division of BIR Region No. 13, said.

The suspect admitted that the fake documents were printed in Manila. She said her task is to distribute the falsified documents to "clients."

Subrian said she has been in the business for two years already as a source of income to support her two children. She said she does not have a permanent job.

A case against the suspect was already filed at the city prosecutor’s office.
