A scuffle between minors at the public plaza of Leon town in the Province of Iloilo was caught on cellphone video.

A lady in black first attacked a lady in white. After which, the companions of the lady in black ganged up on the lady in white.

Students in uniform were seen to have tried to stand between the fight.

The incident was recorded on September 26, 2024.

The victim, referred to as “Nene,” is a 14-year-old Grade 9 student in Leon town. Six other ladies are found to be students from the town of San Miguel, approximately 20.9 kilometers away.

The students involved, along with their parents, were summoned to a meeting of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and Leon Police on September 27, 2024.

Earlier, the brawl was believed to have been caused by a jealous fit, but the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Leon Municipal Police Station clarified that the incident has nothing to do with any rivalry in love interest.

The youngsters’ activities on social media have triggered the melee, according to WCPD.

“Mayroong hindi pagkakaintindihan kasi ngayon, ang kabataan more sa chat, social media influence. So, nagkapikunan sila hanggang sa dumating sa gano’ng punto,” Staff Sergeant Caren Grace Pantua, head of WCPD, said.

The mother of the victim refused an interview, but she said she would not pursue the complaint for as long as the involved minors would shoulder the medical expenses of her daughter.

The minors are set to undergo counselling.

The Schools Division of Iloilo has given the schools the discretion to decide and to act on the incident it considers as “isolated.”

“May authority, responsibility, at accountability ang school head, school principal sa kanyang school. Kasama na diyan ang resources, pati estudyante at teachers,” Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr., schools division superintendent of Iloilo Province, said.

The news team tried to get a statement from the school where the involved students are from, but the school principal refused as the individuals involved in the incident already reached a settlement.
