A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairperson was arrested for stealing money from a staff member of the Mayor’s Office in the Municipality of Tuburan, midwest Cebu Province.

The 21-year-old SK chairperson of a barangay in Tuburan took money from a bag owned by the executive assistant to the mayor.

The suspect was seen in a CCTV footage taking money worth over P30,000 from the bag at past 5 p.m. on September 26, 2024.

The victim reported the incident at around 9 p.m.

It was learned that the suspect came to visit the  mayor’s office. When the 48-year-old executive assistant went out, the bag was left behind at the workstation.

The suspect proceeded to get the money from the bag.

The suspect was arrested later in the night, but only P3,000 was returned as the rest of the money was already spent reportedly for shopping.

 “Ang iyang rason natintal lang gyud kuno siya, naa siya’y problema sa iyahang pamilya ngadto sa iyahang lugar, una naa sad kuno siya’y gustong paliton, di siya kapalit, nya kita niya sa bag, naay kwarta, iyang gihilabtan,” Police Lt. Col. Glenn Hife, chief of the Tuburan Municipal Police Station, said. 

The suspect also sent money to a person that the police have not determined.

"Naa kuno siya’y gipadad-an, gipada kuno sa iyang, ambot asa to niya gipada, basta naa kuno siya’y gipadad-an,” Hife added.

The victim is determined to file a case for theft against the suspect.
