Vegetable prices at the Malimgas Public Market in Dagupan City have surged, with prices of string beans, bitter gourd, and eggplant nearly tripling due to supply problems caused by recent storms.

For several days, vegetable prices at the market have skyrocketed.

Carrots and Baguio beans are also affected by the price hike.

Vendors attribute the sharp increase to the impact of recent heavy rains brought by #GenerPH, which damaged crops and disrupted supply.

"Tumaas talaga ang presyo wala kasing suplay, biglaan ang pagtaas ngayon," Concepcion Bonus, a vendor, said.

Shoppers like Leony Manglinong, who cooks for a canteen, feel the pinch.

"Ako sa canteen nagluluto, nahihirapan ako ngayon na i-presyo ang pagkain kasi ang mahal ng gulay," Manglinog said.

However, the Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) assures the public that the prices will normalize in the coming weeks.

"Talagang ganun kapag tag-ulan, ‘yung produkto medyo may problema pero kapag nag-normalize naman ay bumabalik ang sigla," Engr. Rosendo So, SINAG Chairman, said.

Frequent rains cause vegetable supplies to drop as fruits fall prematurely. But vendors expect supplies to stabilize after two to three weeks.
