Five of six minors involved in the burglary of a government office in Iloilo City will render one-month community service along with their parents.

The case conference of the Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office (ICSWDO) with five of the six minors concluded on September 26, 2024.

The five sneaked in the Iloilo City Public Order and Safety Management Office (POSMO) and carted away three laptop units, a cellular phone, and other items they saw inside POSMO.

Parents and guardians of the children and a representative of the Women and Children Protection Desk of the Iloilo City Police Office attended the conference which tackled interventions for the children.

According to Mary Grace Centino, assistant head of Iloilo CSWDO, all of the children involved are required to render community service for a month together with their parents or guardians.

The parents or guardians, along with their children or wards, signed an agreement on the community service.

The parents or guardians were also encouraged to attend church service together with their children or wards.

The CSWDO has mulled on enrolling the children in a sports program of the city.

The children involved are ages 9 years old, 11, 13, and 17.

Based on the investigation, the youngsters first sneaked inside POSMO on September 21, 2024 and ate what food items they found. The group returned in the afternoon of September 22, 2024 and took gadgets. However, they said, they were not bent on selling the items.

During the investigation, the minors admitted to the burglary at POSMO and returned the three laptops, cellphone, electronic smoking instrument (vape), and bird cage that they took. 

The whereabout of their sixth companion is yet being traced, as of posting time.
