The Mangaldan Police are stepping up efforts to control noise pollution by targeting motorcycles with loud exhausts.

Under "Oplan Sita," officers immediately stop motorcycles and confiscate noisy mufflers.

"During night time, itong violation ng noisy o maiingay na motor. Most especially yung ating exhaust system, under kasi ng Municipal Order 21007 ipinagbabawal, especially yung modification," PLT Col. Roldan Cabatan, Chief of the Mangaldan Police Station, said.

The police have received many complaints about noisy motorcycles disturbing the peace.

Residents like Resty Calimlim expressed her frustration.

"Siyempre, nagigising ka, natutulog ka at saka masakit sa tenga," she said.

"Siyempre, kapag nagpapahinga, bigla ka nalang magugulat... magigising ka, mabubwisit ka, mahihinto yung tulog mo," Jeffrey Daprosa, another resident, added.

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), motorists caught with noisy exhausts may face fines or even up to six months in jail.

Authorities are also planning to ban the manufacture and sale of modified mufflers in the town.

"Isang mga tinitingnan natin dito yung mga pagawaan ng modified na mufflers. Siguro dapat i-update natin itong ating municipal ordinance na ipagbawal ang modification na mufflers na binebenta sa open market," Cabatan said.
