Over 40 persons were arrested for carrying out a spider derby in Cebu City. 

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) arrested at least 42 persons who were caught involved in a betting game of fighting spiders. The arrested persons swarmed the Parian Police Station.

A house used as a venue for the said betting game was raided by the authorities. The house is in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City.

The arrested persons are from ages 19 years old to 64 years old. They are residents of different “sitios” (sub-villages) in the said barangay.

According to Police Major Marvin Fegarido, chief of the Parian Police Station, they received a call via the 911 Hotline on illegal gambling involving spiders, thus the police responded immediately to the complaint.

The police caught the gamblers in the act and proceeded with the arrest. It was learned that the lowest bet was pegged at P50, while the highest is at P500.

Four improvised small boxes that keep 32 live spiders, an improvised spider fighting arena with stick and a platform, and bets worth P2,470 were seized.

Charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 on illegal gambling were set filed against the arrested persons, as of this writing.
