The husband who shot dead his own wife in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City was arrested in southern Cebu.

Rodino Francisco, 51 years old, was arrested at about 3 p.m. on September 24, 2024.

According to Police Lt. Col. Epream Paguyod, chief of the Talisay City Police Office, the suspect sought shelter in the town of Dalaguete where he reportedly has relatives.

Police said that the suspect borrowed a motorbanca but did not return it, as he attempted to flee Cebu on board the boat.

However, the motorbanca ran out of fuel while navigating the waters off the Municipality of Alcoy. He reportedly went desperate, broke a bottle and stabbed himself in the abdomen.

Fishermen who found the boat rocked by the seawaters aimlessly went near it to check and found a wounded person. He was taken to the hospital. 

Francisco, who is placed under hospital arrest as of this writing, admitted to the authorities on shooting dead his wife on Sunday evening, September 22, 2024.

The victim identified as Ailyn Francisco, 38 years old, was a trader of pork and pork products in the area. She was with members of her family having dinner in a streetside eatery along Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City when her husband arrived in the area and shot her several times.

Lt. Col. Paguyod said that jealous fits led to the shooting. He further disclosed that the suspect has six pending warrants of arrest for various cases involving shooting incidents in Ozamiz City, Province of Misamis Occidental.
