The prices of round scad or “galunggong,” often referred to as the “poor man’s fish,” sold in some markets in Davao City have gone up.

According to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Davao (BFAR-11), the bad weather has affected the supply of galunggong and other fish, causing the prices to shoot up.

At the Bankerohan Public Market, prices of fresh galunggong have gone up to as much as P250 per kilo.

The supply from Tibandan, Davao Oriental costs P220 per kilo. However, some vendors sell the fish at a lower price from P150 to P180 per kilo, which are still higher compared to the price before, which was only P80 per kilo.

In Agdao Public Market, the price of galunggong skyrocketed to P300 per kilo.

“Nagtaas gyud ma'am kay sa bagyo man daw ginaingon karon murag linaw naman pero wala paman nag-ubos kini Samal mani,” fish vendor, Fronie Capao, said.
