As the rainy season continues, calamansi trees in Mangaldan, Pangasinan are turning yellow due to overexposure to water.

Farmers like Cristina Aquino from Barangay Inlambo have been battling the effects of excessive rain on their crops.

"Kapag umuulan, nababad, nasisira, namamatay. Pero buti ito, nagawa ng pinsan ko, ginawan niya ng kanal para may agusan [ng] tubig," Aquino said.

Adding to their woes, the price of calamansi has dropped to P12 per kilo due to oversupply in the market.

"Medyo mura ngayon, sabay-sabay kasi namunga mga calamansi," Marlon Aquino, another calamansi grower, said.

The Mangaldan Municipal Agriculture Office is aware of the issue, noting that waterlogged trees produce poor-quality fruits.

They plan to monitor affected farms and offer guidance on preventing further damage.

Mangaldan Municipal Agriculturist Merle Cuison-Sali, stressed the importance of immediate action to protect the crops.

"Kapag napabayaan for how many days na hindi ito ipu-prune talagang masisira," she said.
