With just six days left for voters to register for the 2025 polls, Dagupan City is seeing a noticeable increase in registrants.

Trisha Mae Escaño, a 19-year-old student, went straight to the local Commission on Elections (COMELEC) satellite office after school to register as a first-time voter.

"Kasi may karapatan ako na ano, mag-vote," Escaño said.

Despite having satellite registration venues, some residents, like Bernadette Barlolong, still prefer to visit the COMELEC office.

Barlolong, who recently married, was transferring her registration to Dagupan from Laoac.

"Magpapalipat ako. Galing akong Laoac, gusto kong magpalipat sa Dagupan," Barlolong said.

According to the COMELEC, they are now processing around 120 registrants daily, with numbers expected to rise as the September 30, 2024 deadline approaches.

The city currently has 141,133 registered voters and Comelec targets to reach 145,000 by the end of the registration period.

"Agahan ang pagpunta dito sa venue kung saan ginaganap ang registration. Magdala na rin ng requirements para hindi maabala," Dagupan City Election Officer Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento said.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC), scheduled from October 1 to October 8.
