A barangay chairman in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte was shot dead while at his garage at home.
The victim was identified as Francisco Bagay, 45.
Authorities said Bagay was sitting in his garage when a gunman on a motorcycle approached and opened fire.
He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, but died later while being treated.
Police recovered four bullet casings and one slug from a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
PMaj. Reginaldo Dalipias, chief of the San Nicolas Police, shared that authorities are considering political and personal motives behind the killing.
“The investigation is eyeing political and personal grudge as a motive of the incident. The PNP (Philippine National Police) is continuously conducting follow-up, checking, backtracking of installed CCTV (closed circuit television) — and also the SOCO (Scene of the Crime Operatives) is conducting ballistic examination,” Dalipias said.
The victim's family is calling for justice.
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Task Group has been formed to focus on the case.
The town’s mayor offered a P300,000 reward for information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
