At least 1.5 million devotees flocked to Naga City for the annual Peñafrancia Fluvial Procession on Saturday, September 21, 2024, a highlight of the revered celebration for Our Lady of Peñafrancia, or Inâ, and Divino Rostro.

As in previous years, the event marked an incredible display of faith and devotion, surpassing the 1.3 million turnout in 2023.

2024 marked the 100th of the Canonical Coronation of the Image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime milestone for the faithful, making the occasion even more meaningful for those who were able to witness it.

PROCESSION

The sacred images of Inâ and the Divino Rostro were carried along the Naga River on an adorned pagoda.

Despite the unfavorable weather, the unwavering faith of the pilgrims was evident as they lined the streets and riverbanks to witness the solemn journey.

The procession culminated at the Basilica Minore where Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, DD, presided over the Solemn Pontifical Mass.

THEME

This year’s theme, "Se Siempre La Reina – Pamanang Banal: Atamanon, Padanayon, Palakupon," expressed the lasting devotion to the Our Lady of Peñafrancia as the eternal Queen of Bicol.

"Se siempre la Reina" (Be always the Queen) is a line from the Himno á la Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia, which was composed 100 years ago.

According to the Archdiocese of Caceres, this signifies Inâ’s queenship not through grandeur but through her loving service as Queen Mother, who intercedes for her people.

Pamanang Banal (Divine Inheritance) refers to the divine inheritance of devotion to Inâ, a gift from God passed down through generations.

The Bicolano words Atamanon (to nourish), Padanayon (to preserve), and Palakupon (to share) call upon devotees to nurture, sustain, and pass on this sacred legacy to future generations, ensuring its continued vitality and relevance.

The Peñafrancia Fluvial Procession remains a cherished tradition, symbolizing the strong connection between the Bicolano people and their faith, as shown by the overwhelming support and participation this year.

The feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia is celebrated every third Saturday of September.
