A 54-year-old farmer was shot dead in Barangay Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro.

Police said the victim was at his farm when the suspect arrived and shot him in the chest. The suspect then fled to an unknown direction.

“Nakadungog ang iyang son-in-law ug buto gikan sa area sa iyang father-in-law which is iyang gidagan diretso sa panghitabo sa area. Ang witness nato ang iyang son-in-law sa atong victim,” Lumbia Police Station Chief, Major Mike Cavan, said.

Investigators are eyeing land dispute as possible motive in the killing.

Prior to the incident, the victim reportedly received death threats.

“So naa na sila’y away sa una pa pero amo pa i-check karon. Actually, ongoing pa ang investigation nato ug follow-up operation,” Cavan added.

Operatives are pursuing a person of interest, as of this writing.

“Ang suspek nato karon according sa atong information naa pa sa Brgy. Tignapoloan, giadtuan man siya sa panimalay sa atong operatiba wala siya dadto actually gatago pa karon pero dili pa na siya makagawas,” Cavan said.
