A video showing a group of teenagers throwing a cat into the sea in Barangay Salvacion, Sto. Domingo, Albay has sparked outrage online.

The cat, now safe, was rescued and is under the care of animal welfare groups, while the perpetrators face possible legal action.

The video, which surfaced on Facebook, led to an immediate investigation by local authorities and an animal rescue group.

Tabaco Animal Rescue and Adoption (TAARA) confirmed that the cat was found and is now safe.

"Na-rescue na po [’yung pusa]... nasa custody ng DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) na din po ‘yung mga kabataan," the group said.

The group condemned the act, reminding the public of the importance of protecting animals under the law.

"We are not tolerating all forms of animal cruelty... It must be known to the public that these animals too are governed and protected by the law," TAARA said.

Those found guilty of mistreating animals can be charged for the violation of RA 8585 or the Animal Welfare Act.

TAARA advised that if the public witnesses acts of animal cruelty, they can report it to the nearest police station or reach out to the organization directly for assistance.

"They can directly report po sa nearest PNP (Philippine National Police) or send us a message so we can help po," they said.
