At least 22 families were evacuated after strong waves destroyed houses along a coastal area in Guimbal town, Province of Iloilo.

The 22 families or 67 individuals of Barangay Nanga were evacuated in the afternoon of September 13, 2024 after huge waves brought about by the intensified southwest monsoon (Habagat) destroyed their shanties.

Ten houses were destroyed, while eight were damaged partially.

Evacuees sought temporary shelter at the District Health Center, while the rest were taken care of at the Nanga Integrated School.

Barangay officials have mulled on a relocation for the affected residents.

“Sinisira ng alon ang poste (ng kabahayan). Ang ibang parte sana ng bahay gaya ng yero, pwede pang kunin at magamit ulit,” Nanga Barangay Chairman Ruel Sitaca said.
