Western Visayas was not hit directly by #GenerPH, but the effects of the intensified southwest monsoon (Habagat) affected over 46,000 families or 150,000 individuals.

The good news is that as of September 17, 2024, the number of evacuees has dropped to approximately 9,000 families or 35,000 individuals at evacuation centers in Western Visayas. The most number of evacuees was recorded in the Province of Antique with about 11,000 individuals, according to the latest data released by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 6.

No further incidents of flooding in different locations in the region were reported.

However, four cases of death were recorded under the prevailing bad weather condition.

Suspension of face-to-face classes from pre-school to senior high school in Iloilo City and Bacolod City are still in effect, as of posting time. Colleges and universities followed suit. Other local government units (LGUs) in the provinces of Western Visayas also declared cancellation of classes.

As of this writing, intermittent rain has been experienced in Iloilo City and other parts of the region.

The Philippine Coast Guard has stayed alert on the effects of the weather disturbance to pad any untoward incident at sea.
