The local government of Zamboanga City has implemented a preemptive evacuation in barangays affected by flood following heavy rains caused by southwest monsoon.

Nearly 1,000 families were evacuated from Barangays Tumaga, Guiwan, San Jose Gusu, Putik, Sta. Maria, and Pasonanca, as of 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

The families affected are taking shelter temporarily at the different evacuation centers.

Families affected were given immediate assistance while the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) continues to conduct assessment and profiling.

The local government said no cancellation of trips via land, air, and sea as per report from the Integrated Bus Terminal, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and Coast Guard Zamboanga Station, as of 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) are constantly monitoring the situation in rivers and low-lying areas.

Water level at the Pasonanca diversionary weir has reached 74.8 meters, which is critical above the normal level of 74.20 meters.
