A woman and her two-year-old grandson were injured after a coconut tree fell on their house in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The two were brought to the hospital after they sustained injuries. The grandmother is already safe, but the boy is still being monitored at the Southern Philippines Medical Center, as of this writing.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the tree may have fallen due to strong winds caused by the southwest monsoon and trough of Severe Tropical Storm Bebinca.

“Gumikan to siya sa atoang moderate to strong winds caused by trough of severe tropical storm Bebinca plus southwest monsoon,” CDRRMO Team Leader, Philip June Caminade, said.

Another tree near the main gate of a private hospital also fell. The gate and the waiting shed outside the hospital were damaged.

CDRRMO personnel also conducted clearing operations after more trees fell on the highway in Barangay Dawis and Barangay Tiguman Road.

“Karon ang atoang panahon sa atong siyudad sa Digos, medyo cloudy skies. Then, continue gihapon ang atong monitoring sa atong weather forecast as well as BDRRMCs,” Caminade added.

Meanwhile, a house in Davao City was also damaged after a big tree fell and hit the portion of the roof.
