The body of a 62-year-old boatman was retrieved after a boat submerged in the vicinity of Gak-ang Island, off Panglao, Bohol due to rough seas.

The incident happened at around noontime of September 12, 2024.

The recovery of the body was confirmed by Coast Guard Lieutenant Junior Grade Romulo Balonga, Jr., commander of Coast Guard Station Western Bohol, in an interview with  GMA Super Radyo Cebu. 

Balonga said that the boat came from an island hopping activity but big waves, in the event of a squall, hit the boat in the vicinity of Panglao Island, Bohol.

The boatman was thrown off the vessel.

Balonga said that the boatman sustained a wound on his head.

Korean tourists were found to be safe as well as the skipper of the boat.

Other three boats also submerged in the waters off Panglao Island due to the inclement weather, Balonga confirmed. 

Responders rescued around 20 boat passengers.
