Authorities at the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Subic seized over P136.59 million worth of smuggled agricultural products and cigarettes, hidden inside five shipping containers.

In an official statement, the BOC revealed that the shipment, declared as containing 13,250 boxes of frozen fish egg balls, was found to be carrying carrots and onions from China without proper documentation.

Earlier on September 6, 2024 two other containers from Taiwan were intercepted. These were declared as “packages of tissues,” but upon inspection, authorities discovered 1,986 master cases of cigarettes valued at P115.5 million.

The goods confiscated underwent re-inspection on September 11, led by BOC personnel in coordination with the Department of Agriculture.

The products were seized for violating regulations of the National Tobacco Administration and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The BOC continues its efforts to prevent the entry of smuggled goods into the country.

This is part of ongoing operations to ensure compliance with importation laws and regulations.
