Authorities intercepted three vessels carrying questionable petroleum products off the coast of Barangay Sisiman, Mariveles, Bataan.

One crew member allegedly attempted to flee by jumping into the sea but was arrested along with four others.

The PNP Maritime Group's Task Group Omega spotted three ships suspected of illegal activities in Bataan waters.

Before officers could approach, a crew member jumped overboard but was caught shortly after.

A police officer reportedly fired his weapon accidentally during the operation, injuring one of the crew members.

"Tatlong barko, kaso nung nakita ang presensiya namin, nagpulasan. Yung isang barko nga dahil sa madilim, pilit na binangga pa yung bangka namin. Dahil dun sa pagbangga, yung isang pulis natumba, nakalabit niya ang gatilyo, accidental firing, tinamaan yung isang akusado sa puwet," PMaj. Marlo Gabato, PNP Maritime Group STG-Omega Commander, said.

The crew member injured was rushed to the hospital and is now safe.

The vessels were found carrying an estimated 28,000 liters of petroleum products worth around P1.5 million, but the crew failed to present the necessary documents from the Department of Energy (DOE).

"Sa estimate namin, nasa 28,000 liters. Meron sila dapat notice to engage na galing sa DOE. Wala silang maipakita na papel sa amin," Gabato said.

Authorities are investigating the origin and destination of the diesel cargo.

The DOE confirmed that the ships and their crew were not registered.

This operation comes shortly after an oil spill in Bataan waters, suspected to have been caused by illegal dumping from vessels in the area.
